Commercial Trucking Accidents

Recent semi-truck accident statistics reveal that 1 out of 8 eight fatal accidents were caused by a collision with a semi-truck.  Illinois, like much of the Midwest, has high numbers of trucking crash related injuries and fatalities.

Semi-trucks that are fully loaded can tip the scales at 80,000 pounds and can pose an enormous danger to other drivers on the road.  Moreover, in a business where time is money, a truck drivers' poor decision can increase a motorists' risks.  For instance, semi-truck drivers are under constant pressure to meet time deadlines, and a driver's lack of adequate rest may lead to sleep deprivation.  A drowsy trucker that doesn't take mandated scheduled breaks can be the fatal cause of any serious Illinois semi-truck accident. Other common causes of truck accidents in Illinois are:
  • excessive speed by truck driver
  • drowsiness-related crashes
  • driving in unsafe weather conditions
  • driving longer than the allowed amount of hours, resulting in fatigue
  • driving at excessive speeds
  • driving trucks that are too big or overloaded
  • mechanical failure
  • driving with loads improperly secured
  • spilled loads
  • aggressive driving to meet deadlines
  • the driver leaves inadequate space between themselves and your vehicle
  • driver's difficulty to locate you in their blind spot
Evidence is a crucial element to your trucking accident case.  If you had been struck by another car, it wouldn't necessarily matter how long the other driver had been at the wheel, or whether or not the other driver kept records of their travel times.  But because you were hit by a semi-truck, these factors will matter, and they will make a difference.
