Slip and Fall and Premises Liability

There are lots of everyday challenges one faces without having to worry about whether a landowner has taken minimal steps to ensure their property is safe to use. However, the reality is that every day, hundreds of people in Illinois and Wisconsin suffer injuries due to the negligent property maintenance of others. According to the National Safety Council, premises liability and slip and fall accidents are the single largest cause of emergency room visits. Unfortunately, most of these slip and fall injuries could have been avoided had the property owner properly maintained their premises or effectively warned visitors of the potential dangers.

Most slip and fall accidents happen in commercial locations but can also occur on private property. The following conditions are often attributed to a slip and fall:
  • Wet, icy, and/or slippery conditions.
  • Walkways with broken or uneven pavement/concrete.
  • Elevator/escalator accidents.
  • Improper maintenance of stairs, porches, etc...
  • Inadequate lighting.
  • Lack of handrails, guardrails, etc...
  • Falling merchandise or debris.
  • Failure to provide adequate security.

Hiring an attorney to investigate your premises liability or slip 'n fall case should be your first step. Without an attorney, premises liability cases are extremely difficult to prove, and even harder to prevail upon.  Many public properties have waivers, immunities, and hire experienced defense attorneys, and big insurance companies that will all do their best to deny your claim.

The attorneys at ACME Law Offices in Chicago have achieved successful results for victims of premises liability and slip 'n fall injuries.
